So I finally managed to finish my WITL album and upload it to share. I LOVED this project. There are a few things I'll do differently next time around, but all in all I'm really happy with my very first Week in the Life participation.
We're back from our 9 day trip around the country. I'll share some of my travel journal tomorrow, but for now I want to share a two pictures from the trip.
My husband and I like to travel on the weekends in our camper van. I love that it's basically always ready to go, just stop at a grocery store somewhere on the way and we're ready. This summer will be a little different as it's the first summer since 2009 that I've had a summer job. I'm still getting used to the idea, but there was no way that I could turn down the opportunity to work at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography after getting a phone call from the director asking me to come and work. We'll just have to use the weekends wisely to make up for being busy during the work days. And since my summer vacation (actually just time between jobs) is from May 13-June 12 we were planning on using that time to take a longer trip around Iceland.
We're almost ready to get this summer started, the van is ready to go, sheets are washed and I've been trying to figure out how/if I want to document our travels (who am I kidding? of course I want to document). My plan is to take pictures as we go, print in the evening and write an overview of each day as it's coming to a close.
We took a day trip yesterday to see if there was anything missing and to make a list of what we need for our first real trip. I love that this beautiful place is only an 8 minute drive from our house. We parked the van, G napped (he was feeling sick - manflu, I'm sure), I took a walk in the drizzle and then read a book inside. I have been using today to figure out how I want my documentation to look and what I want to bring along in my kit.
Simple is what I need, so I'm putting together a kit of mostly stamps and a little bit of embellishments. I'm working in a notebook, so it's pretty hard to write in it if I use a lot of embellishments, if I want to add some I need to do that after the summer is over.
I can't wait to get going.
I love these stamps and am excited to use them for my documenting. Most of them are from Studio Calico kits but two from Ali Edwards.
Do you have any plans for travel this summer? Do you document them as you go or later when you're home?
My WITL album is almost finished (yay!). I just need to type the closing for Thurs-Sun, but otherwise I'm done. I'm sharing my Tuesday and Wednesday now, I put the pages in a slideshow so the post won't be too photo heavy.
And my Thursday. I actually would have wanted to have more photos for this day, but I was too caught up in the moment to document anything while I was at my friend's house. I made up for it by journaling what would have been in the photo that I didn't take.
What do you prefer, photo heavy post or slideshow? Please leave me a comment so I can keep it in mind for the rest of my WITL posts. Thanks for looking.
We were both pretty tired so sleeping in until 9 was wonderful. And Monday is a holiday as well, so we get an extra day to sleep in.
He always cleans the kitchen before getting some coffee. I love that he does that.
Quiet and cozy Sunday. The teen being a teen, always connected to wi-fi. Always.
G and L went out to pick up some things from the store.
Meanwhile, I took a nap and tried to get rid of a headache. I love seeing this tree from the bedroom window.
I checked out the new Ali Edwards story kit while I was home by myself. I am in love with this kit! I normally read a lot and I can't wait to use the kit to document my stories.
We watched a movie. She had never seen Clueless, and I was shocked, so Clueless it was.
She loves this tree as much as I do. She wanted a picture of her by the tree to put up on Instagram, so of course I obliged.
We went out for a walk while G watched a game on tv. It was so nice to get out in the fresh air for an hour. I am so happy that the evenings are bright now, this picture is taken at 9:30 PM. The weather has also been nice, so that makes me happy as well.
I am so thankful that this beautiful place is only a 10 minute walk from my house. It's the best place to go to walk and recharge my mental batteries.
We were both wide awake when we got home from our walk, so we decided to watch Moulin Rouge together. Another first for her... She loved it!
The tree is still going strong. I'm guessing it has a few more days of blossoms.
Getting spares for the camper.
Most of our day was spent in the garage getting the camper ready for the summer.
Hopefully we'll be ready to go on the road after next weekend.
Watching Eurovision and snapping with my sister. We were very surprised at the winner (to say the least).
So I meant to blog all of the days pictures and words. Then things came up and I lost my pace. Sort of. I took photos, but no notes, and I didn't take the time to upload them daily. My stepdaughter came over for the weekend and spending time with her is more important... so, I'm just going to upload pictures and minimal words for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Friday morning started well, I decided not to go to the studio but to stay home since I'm officially on summer vacation (before I start my summer job). The morning was an easy going break with a little housework, coffee and scrapping.
Laundry before coffee and a handful of nuts.
I worked on my WITL album. I absolutely love Ali's WITL kit.
G came home from work and took a nap on the couch while I worked in my creative space.
One of the things I want to remember from this time in our life is this. All of Lúna's toys, all over the floor. It's like having a toddler in the house, except she's a dog. This is her favorite and has been for a while. It used to be nice and stuffed, but some time ago she managed to rip it open. So the stuffing went in the trash and now it looks like a rat snowsuit, but she takes it with her everywhere. IKEA plush toys are stronger than any of the dog toys she's had, they can really take a beating (and biting and scratching).
Very typical afternoon, this is where he charges his phone, so if it's low on batteries he lays in bed and catches up on news/facebook/twitter etc.
L decided to come over this weekend. We always have fun when she's here and this weekend was no exception (thus the lack of blogging). She really wanted some apple juice, so we got out the juicer and made some amazing combo of juice.
Watching tv on the couch together. I love it when life is EASY.
Eep! I was so excited to see that I was featured on Ali Edwards Design Inc instagram feed. A little too excited, G and L didn't get the excitement :)
I opted for a super simple cover, just one photo and some rubber words that capture perfectly why I'm doing this project in the first place.
I used my typewriter for the journaling here, I'm planning on mixing typewritten and handwritten journaling throughout the album. My old typewriter could use a good cleaning, but I kind of love the dirty look I get with the gunk filled letters.
I had so many photos that I decided to hole punch some photos and a journaling card and add directly to my album.
I'm kind of obsessed with this tree in my front yard. Total overload of photos of it and I'm sure the whole album will be overflowing with pictures of it, but at this time of year it's my absolute favorite.
Again, I hole punched a journaling card and photo to add directly to the album. I'm really liking the way it looks and I get more space for photos. The Week in the Life kit from Ali Edwards is so gorgeous! I think I'm going to try and stick with using just the kit, but we'll see how that goes.
I haven't quite decided what to do with the whole 6x8 page on the right... I was thinking about maybe printing some news report for a general feel of what was going on this week, but I'm open to suggestions. I just have a selphy printer at home, so a big photo is out (I think).
I'm looking forward to seeing how you are putting your album together... If you've blogged about it, I'd love to see! Link me up if you want to share.
Hmm... I seem to be losing some of my momentum. So much so that I forgot to take pictures for half of the day. Sheesh, Sandra... get your game on! It was the kind of morning where we didn't really want to get up, but had to anyway. It was a pretty morning though, soft light and not raining.
Of course I admired my tree on the way to the car. I don't seem to be able to just walk past it without looking... I just know that soon it will stop blooming and this show will be over. I'm enjoying it while I can.
The trees outside of my studio are starting to show some signs of spring. That's promising. I love working in this place, the sounds of the factory mix with the tranquility of the view of the ocean.
I met up with a dear friend that I haven't seen for too long. It was so nice to chat and to catch up. I'm glad that she called and wanted to meet up.
Looking at my shoes, I see that
1. I need to take better care of them and polish them - on the to-do list for tomorrow
2. These are getting so worn out, I can't wait to go to Boston and buy shoes this fall.
3. I hate not being able to buy shoes here... silly small feet.
4. I'm thankful for full mobility.
These days there are so many cars in the parking lot. I love that the building is filling up with action, we have been alone for a long time, so the change is a welcome one. I love walking out and looking at Esjan. I love seeing Viðey from the parking lot (and even better from the rooftop).
Lunch traffic on the way to work. It's so strange that this is my last day before summer vacation. Strange and a little sad.
I was so hungry that I stopped and bought a hot dog and a teeny tiny Coke. This is the first wheat + sugar that I've had in over 5 weeks... It wasn't as good as I remembered and made my stomach hurt. I managed to take two sips of the Coke before giving up and rinsing my mouth out with water. I guess I really don't miss this as much as I thought.
These boys are so fun! They've been a part of a closed friendship building group at the school that I work at. The goal is to help kids that are a little shaky socially and grouping them with others who are not. In this case it worked just as it should. It's so nice to see all of them growing. For our last meeting we went to a local gymnastics center and let them play and then went to the mall for something to eat.
Grocery shopping... I love seeing that, without any thought, my shopping cart keeps looking healthier. And I love those grapes! Half of them are going in the fridge and the other half in the freezer. Frozen grapes are a huge favorite at our house, especially when the girls are here.
The weather was nice, the sky was beautiful as the sun started to set and I really needed some fresh air. I decided to sit outside for a little bit and read before bed. It was actually a little cold so I didn't stay out very long, but I love this time of year. I love bright summer nights, the sun was just starting to set and it was already 10:30. Next week or the week after it won't get dark at all. Right now, this is my favorite season, but I know that after summer is over and the nights start getting long again, I will feel like fall is my favorite season.
Wednesday. You were so nice to me. Cloudy and gray, without being cold or wet. Just the way I like it. I was up pretty early and printed out some WITL photos for my album, I was planning on starting it today at a friend's house and wanted to have it ready. I had plenty of time to get ready, so I tried curling my hair with a flat iron... it wasn't curly, but I liked the way it looked anyway.
My day started with a doctor's appointment at 9:15. I am so thankful that I can afford to go see a doctor and I'm thankful for affordable healthcare. Everything turned out fine and I made another appointment for May 2017. Thank god for google calendars.
I visited a friend for some crafty time at her house. I love crafting with others, but I can't say that it makes me productive... I seem to be most productive at home in complete silence. Weird, I know... I managed to place my photos in pockets though and even got them cropped and glued down.
I love coming home to her... she always has a party when I get home, no matter how long (or not long) I've been gone. (yes that's a pee puddle... I'm that exciting).
I wore a scarf that my mom knit for herself, but I hijacked a while ago. I love the way the colors complement my -almost always- black wardrobe. G called me and asked me to bring him some stuff from the garage. I hardly ever go in there and don't know where anything is, so it was a bit of a scavenger hunt.
I managed to find what he needed and brought it to him. I am so thankful that he can fix (almost) anything that goes wrong with the cars.
They sit in their usual spots while I work on my album in my craft room. She looks out the window to make sure no cats come anywhere near the house (or kids, or adults, or cars... everything warrants a bark). He watches a game on tv, Liverpool vs. Chelsea. I love that our lives are finding their rhythm again.
